Rompslomp is an online bookkeeping suite for freelancers and small businesses, with a free entry tier for a limited number of invoices and quotes, a separate invoicing plan, and paid plans that hold the bookkeeping, the bank link and the VAT return. It aims at business owners who want to do their own books without bookkeeping knowledge.

What Factuurmaken.nl is

Factuurmaken.nl is an invoicing tool. It does the invoice and what is attached to it: quotes with instalments, reminders, online payments with iDEAL, recurring invoices, e-invoices over UBL and Peppol, and a bank link that ticks off paid invoices. The bookkeeping itself it leaves to your accountant, who reads along for free.

The difference in practice

If you want to do the books yourself, Rompslomp is built for that and everything sits in one tool. If you have an accountant, a bookkeeping suite charges you for work that is already being done, while at factuurmaken you only pay for invoicing and getting paid. Rompslomp’s free plan is a good entry for anyone who invoices very little; anyone who wants reminders and a bank link ends up on a paid plan at either.

Rompslomp has a free plan. When is factuurmaken the better choice?

Rompslomp's free plan is capped in invoices per month and lacks reminders and a bank link; those sit in the paid plans. Factuurmaken has reminders, online payments and the bank link in every plan. Anyone who only needs an invoice now and then can make a one-off invoice at factuurmaken without an account.

Does factuurmaken file the VAT return, like Rompslomp?

Not the invoicing tool, deliberately. You see per quarter what you invoiced and how much VAT goes with it. If you do your own books, the separate add-on AI Bookkeeping prepares your VAT overview. Either way, filing is done by you or through your accountant, who reads along for free.

Can I switch without breaking my numbering?

Yes. You set the invoice number to continue from and the sequence runs on. You add clients as you invoice, with their details from the KVK register.
