What Moneybird is

Moneybird is an online bookkeeping suite for freelancers and small businesses. Invoices and quotes are in it, but the heart of the tool is the administration: importing and booking bank transactions, processing purchase invoices, preparing and filing the VAT return, and a year overview for the accountant or the income tax return. The plans are built around that: the more administration, the higher the tier.

What Factuurmaken.nl is

Factuurmaken.nl is an invoicing tool. You make an invoice that adds up, send it, and get help getting paid: an iDEAL button in the e-mail, reminders that go out by themselves and a bank link that ticks off paid invoices. Quotes, recurring invoices and e-invoices (UBL and Peppol) come with it. What is deliberately left out is the bookkeeping itself: no journal entries, no VAT return. Your accountant reads along for free from their own account.

The difference in practice

Anyone who does their own books and wants them in one tool is well served by Moneybird. Anyone who invoices and leaves the books to an accountant pays a bookkeeping suite for features the accountant already has in their own software. That is what factuurmaken is for: everything to do with the invoice, and nothing else.

Can I switch from Moneybird to Factuurmaken.nl?

Yes. You set the invoice number to continue from so your sequence stays intact, and you add clients as you invoice, with their details from the KVK register. Your old invoices stay in Moneybird or come along as PDFs; no import is needed to carry on.

Does Factuurmaken.nl do bookkeeping, like Moneybird?

No, and that is a choice. Factuurmaken does invoicing, quotes, reminders, online payments and a bank link that ticks off paid invoices. The books and the VAT return stay with you or your accountant, who reads along for free.

Can I use both side by side?

You can, but it is rarely needed. Anyone who has Moneybird for the books usually invoices in it too. Anyone who only wants to invoice has enough with factuurmaken and lets the accountant read along or exports the UBL files.
