What Jortt is

Jortt is an online bookkeeping suite for freelancers and small businesses, with a free entry tier in which you can make invoices and quotes. The paid plans add the bookkeeping: bank link, purchase invoices, the VAT return and the income tax return. Jortt positions itself as the tool in which you do the books yourself, with automatic bookings so you need no accountant.

What Factuurmaken.nl is

Factuurmaken.nl is an invoicing tool. It does the invoice and everything attached to it: quotes with instalments, reminders, online payments, recurring invoices, e-invoices over UBL and Peppol, and a bank link that ticks off paid invoices. The bookkeeping itself it deliberately leaves to your accountant, who reads along for free.

The difference in practice

The question is who does the books. If you do them yourself and want them in the same tool as your invoices, Jortt is built for that. If you have an accountant, a bookkeeping suite charges you for work that is already being done. Factuurmaken keeps the monthly price low by doing only the invoicing, and puts the bank link and reminders in every plan.

Frequently asked questions

Jortt has a free plan. Why would I pay for factuurmaken?

Jortt's free plan is meant as a step into its paid bookkeeping plans and therefore lacks a bank link and bookkeeping. Factuurmaken has the bank link, reminders and online payments in every plan, at a monthly price below Jortt's paid plans. If you only want to send a free invoice, factuurmaken's free watermarked preview is there too.

Can I switch from Jortt without breaking my invoice numbers?

Yes. In factuurmaken you set the number to continue from and the sequence runs on. You add clients as you invoice, with their details from the KVK register.

Does factuurmaken file the VAT return, like Jortt?

No, the invoicing tool files nothing. You see per quarter what you invoiced and how much VAT goes with it, split per rate. If you do your own books, the separate add-on AI Bookkeeping prepares your VAT overview. Either way, filing is done by you or through your accountant, who reads along for free.
